moroso's current webpage features "tumbleweed" artwork by francesco simeti and andrea sala.  i spy cactus and succulents as a huge home trend.  stay tuned for an upcoming cactus trend board from this girl.

oh yeah

oh wow.  and they aren't  kidding.  ohwow is a more than appropriate name for the creative collective who's goal is to connect artists and their proposed ideas with a community of others who have the experience and resources to execute the given project.  ohwow hosts a variety of events across the world with roots at ohwow in miami and the ohwow book club in new york.  i am loving the book club's turquoise and metallic wallpaper and shelving inspired by navajo patterns.  both very cool venues are designed by architect rafael decardenas of architecture at large.

looking for some new jams?  the mixtape club features 10 new mixtapes every month that are composed by a variety of music lovers.  "awake again" by buddhabong is my favorite this time around.  super chill and laid back.  perfect music to blog to.

hello walls

dedon, an outdoor luxury furnishing company, has recently launched their "coming home" campaign.  the campaign was shot by fashion photographer bruce weber who used a wide variety of models and animals for the shoot.  the advertising is fresh, young and hip, as is the company who just celebrated their 20th anniversary.  the photography from the shoot has also been made into a book which you can purchase on the dedon website and while you are there be sure to check out the blogazine.  pictured above is my favorite piece from dedon, a room divider called "green" by jean marie massaud.

the italian home decor brand seletti has some new collage style advertising that i am really digging.  check out their products from furniture to tableware here. 

pieces of what

uli budde showed his "reading table" at berlin's dmy international design festival.  the minimal side table features a wrap to hold all of your favorite magazines.  on uli's website he shows production photos of the self-manufactured tables.  via minimalissimo

hotel, motel, holiday inn

"come up to my room" is a rad project that the gladstone hotel in toronto hosts to coincide with toronto design week.  the hotel chooses artists and designers from a variety of backgrounds to create installations that are site specific within the rooms and public spaces of the hotel. the hotel also boasts 37 artist designed rooms, as well as, art galleries and art events.  the next annual show is in the end of january 2011.  hope to see you there!

white flight

stefan diez has added a new member to his houdini collection.  the eugene lounge chair is made from oak-veneered lacquered plywood and made its debut at salone internazionale del mobile in milan.  other pieces in the collection include the jean barstool, bess sofa and bessy stool.

this is now.  interface flor was a hit at neocon 2010 promoting their "memphis under foot" collection, inspired by the 1980's art and design movement of the memphis group.  i have been seeing the trend creeping back into design style for awhile now but have been avoiding acknowledging it.  i have despised this style of design for years.  i hate primary colors and building block shapes.  credit is given to the memphis group's ettore sottsass for challenging traditional ideas of "good taste" by using bright colors and bold patterns.  interface flor created a blast from the past in their chicago showroom and even played music videos from la roux, including the very memphis "bulletproof."  interface flor and la roux are making memphis grow on me.

i am looking forward to attending neocon next week where i hope to meet some of my favorite design bloggers!!  furniture company vitra, shown at milan design week above, will be hosting "bloggers jungle" at the chicago show next week. blogs contemporist, design milk and otto-otto are some of my favorites and i hope to meet them there!  you can also check out what else i and other designers are looking forward to at neocon here.

these solar powered pendant lamps from ikea would look so nice on a porch! the solig line runs on solar cells and uses LED lights. also available in table and floor models.

fill 'er up

i have to admit that it was not love at first sight when i spotted the "industrial upholstery" chair by gilli kuchik of bakery design. the colors definitely caught my eye but something about how the legs attached to the seat drove me crazy. then i read the story behind the experimentation with the upholstery. gilli's research on upholstery showed that there has not been much innovation and decided to experiment with polyurethane foam. instead of using a mold to create a foam piece to cover with fabric, gilli uses the fabric as the actual mold. super clever. i like her style and can't wait to see what she comes up with next!

blowing up

architect oskar zieta has hit the jackpot with his plopp stool. the stool is created by using a new and innovative material: inflated metal. most said it couldn't be done but after years of experimentation zieta, along with materials scientist phillipp dohmen, have perfected the art of inflating metal. very impressive. fast company has put together a sweet slideshow of the story behind the plopp stool and it can be purchased from moss.

fashion designer jean paul gaultier dressed this room for elle decor in london. i love the stretched fabric over furniture pieces and have been seeing this a lot. via trendland

i inspire me

wallpaper magazine is the best. they have an online gallery space called wallspace that they invite designers to share what inspires their work. my favorite is tokujin yokiosha's. his inspiration is definitely in line with his work.

front, back and side to side

can i just say how much i #1 love moroso and #2 admire the ladies of front design. they designed the "wood chair" by using the wood beaded seat covers taxi cab drivers use on their car seats as inspiration. the chair launched at milan design week 2010. so rad. i'm totally digging it. via designboom
