this is the way i live

i love the spread "theory of evolution" in september's elle decoration.  this is the way i and so many others that i know live:  by the idea of something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.  over the years people tend to acquire things that they love, whether it be a brand new trendy product or a vintage piece from an antique store.

how sick is this?

minneapolis based furniture company blu dot doesn't beat around the bush.  they feature the felt upholstered dodu bed along with the statement "getting the flu sucks.  make it suck less." in their current print advertising.  just telling it like it is.  i dig it.

flos

lighting company flos features the chasen s pendant lamp designed by the notorious patricia urquiola in their current advertising.  the amount of light the lamp gives off can be altered by mechanically moving the slats which also changes its shape.  available in black or white.

sonic boom

partners & spade has the one of the coolest inspiration photo blogs around.  the marketing and branding company who also produces films, books, apparel and conceptual products has done work with some of the brightest and best including target and lighting company roll & hill.  based in manhattan, the front of their studio serves as an art gallery.  sounds like the best job ever.

hello walls

dedon, an outdoor luxury furnishing company, has recently launched their "coming home" campaign.  the campaign was shot by fashion photographer bruce weber who used a wide variety of models and animals for the shoot.  the advertising is fresh, young and hip, as is the company who just celebrated their 20th anniversary.  the photography from the shoot has also been made into a book which you can purchase on the dedon website and while you are there be sure to check out the blogazine.  pictured above is my favorite piece from dedon, a room divider called "green" by jean marie massaud.

hot mess

so today i read an interesting article in the new york times called " how this half lives." mark rozzo explores the newest design publications and what a hot mess they are. and thats in a good way. there are no stylists at these photo shoots, just the everyday surroundings of everyday people. the selby blog is definitely the jump off to the messy trend. now there is also apartmento, an interiors magazine to inspire those looking to achieve the lived in look. apartmento will be hosting a pop up restaurant at the international contemporary furniture fair in new york next month. hope to see you there! check out the new york times article here.

step it up

love this concept!
hauntingly beautiful photos of dismissed chairs.
as amazing as these photos are it is such a sad display of
how irresponsible and dismissive people are with their belongings.
i have mad respect for chairs.
there is a huge flickr sharing site for sad chairs
inspired by the book by bill keaggy.
