back to the future

i'm back!  and so is the interiors trend book from imm cologne's panel of trend forecasting experts including designer patricia urquiola.  above is a taste of the 4 trend categories they are seeing;  re-balancing, emotional austerity, surprising empathy and transforming perspectives. the full book will be launching soon!

this is the way i live

i love the spread "theory of evolution" in september's elle decoration.  this is the way i and so many others that i know live:  by the idea of something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.  over the years people tend to acquire things that they love, whether it be a brand new trendy product or a vintage piece from an antique store.

the grass is really greener

kartell's new advertising campaign follows the green outdoorsy advertising trend.  the ad features products in pinky orange, orange red and kartell red colorways that are set up in a collage to form the letter k.  i'm digging it.

rose colored glasses

cb2 has just launched their fall 2010 catalog.  as always, the magazine features beautiful sets in modern loft spaces which you can see here.  featured above are some of my favorite new products.  i love the color fade in the rose colored lens print is by brooklyn based artist katherine duclos.  and i am a little bit obsessed with the art of caning right now as seen on the ketch pillow.  the caning craft is definitely having a revival right now and i see it being used in unconventional ways as a huge trend for home right now.

do or die

i almost thought neon was dead.
thank god for vivienne westwood and brazilian design group neon.  at the spring/summer 2011 fashion show westwood's models were made up with bright eyeshadows and neon presented a collection of head to toe neon pieces.  neon colors are still in full force but with a bit less fluorescence.  pastel neon is the new hotness.

prickly pear

moroso's current webpage features "tumbleweed" artwork by francesco simeti and andrea sala.  i spy cactus and succulents as a huge home trend.  stay tuned for an upcoming cactus trend board from this girl.

that was then

this is now.  interface flor was a hit at neocon 2010 promoting their "memphis under foot" collection, inspired by the 1980's art and design movement of the memphis group.  i have been seeing the trend creeping back into design style for awhile now but have been avoiding acknowledging it.  i have despised this style of design for years.  i hate primary colors and building block shapes.  credit is given to the memphis group's ettore sottsass for challenging traditional ideas of "good taste" by using bright colors and bold patterns.  interface flor created a blast from the past in their chicago showroom and even played music videos from la roux, including the very memphis "bulletproof."  interface flor and la roux are making memphis grow on me.

you're my obsession

i have a confession. i know why you can't find any wedges by cynthia vincent for target in the milwaukee area. i bought them all. the designer collaboration shoes have been selling like hotcakes and have become so difficult to find that they are currently selling on ebay for more than twice what they originally sold at target for. fashion bloggers have been going nuts over the target launch which seemed to cause a bigger storm than expected. get it while its hot!

hot mess

so today i read an interesting article in the new york times called " how this half lives." mark rozzo explores the newest design publications and what a hot mess they are. and thats in a good way. there are no stylists at these photo shoots, just the everyday surroundings of everyday people. the selby blog is definitely the jump off to the messy trend. now there is also apartmento, an interiors magazine to inspire those looking to achieve the lived in look. apartmento will be hosting a pop up restaurant at the international contemporary furniture fair in new york next month. hope to see you there! check out the new york times article here.
