sam grawe, dwell magazine's editor-in-chief, speaks with blog designboom on everything from the publication's history to how they have kept the magazine in print while maintaining a great online presence. grawe states that a quote from eliel saarinen influences the way in which the magazine creates content: "always design a thing by considering it in its next larger context, a chair in a room, a room in a house, a house in an environment, an environment in a city plan." the magazine celebrates its tenth anniversary this fall and plans for the future include broadening their scope to incorporate more about the neighborhoods the modern homes they feature are located in. love it.

sonic boom
partners & spade has the one of the coolest inspiration photo blogs around. the marketing and branding company who also produces films, books, apparel and conceptual products has done work with some of the brightest and best including target and lighting company roll & hill. based in manhattan, the front of their studio serves as an art gallery. sounds like the best job ever.

doing it so good
its not very often that i check out the blog design*sponge (clearly not my style) but i just happened to stumble upon some amazing services that the author, grace bonney, is beginning to offer other creative bloggers. in a series of youtube videos, bonney describes the history of the blog and how she is making a living doing what she loves. check out 1, 2, 3 and 4. the design*sponge website also offers some great tips about blogging. above is my favorite post featuring neon objects for under $100. holler.

hot mess

so today i read an interesting article in the new york times called " how this half lives." mark rozzo explores the newest design publications and what a hot mess they are. and thats in a good way. there are no stylists at these photo shoots, just the everyday surroundings of everyday people. the selby blog is definitely the jump off to the messy trend. now there is also apartmento, an interiors magazine to inspire those looking to achieve the lived in look. apartmento will be hosting a pop up restaurant at the international contemporary furniture fair in new york next month. hope to see you there! check out the new york times article here.

come together right now

wow.
this could be war.
thecoolhunter.net has launched a guerilla marketing campaign
which will be used to "create a buzz" by slapping stickers
on cars, magazines and people.
i loved the stickers until i spotted the one that states:
"the contents of this magazine
have already been blogged
save your money and read
thecoolhunter.net"
ouch.
in a period where magazines are struggling to stay
afloat due to the rise of digital media,
the ad
will run in close to 100 magazines this year
stating that "during the 12-year life of google,
magazine readership actually increased 11 percent"
and that
"people aren't giving up swimming,
just because they also enjoy surfing."
you go magazines.
even though i am a blogger and love the cool hunter,
i simply cannot imagine life without magazines.
